Approximately 6,000 people from all over the tristate area are expected to descend upon Rose Tree Park in Media tomorrow for the 10th Annual Walk for the Wounded and Warriors 5K Run.

And it’s not too late for you to be one of them, as walk-up registration is permitted.

The event raises critically needed funds for Operation First Response and helps to meet the needs of the tens of thousands of wounded warriors by alleviating the significant financial and emotional challenges their families face.

“This is our 10th year, and we’re rapidly closing in on $2 million raised,” said Marty Milligan, Chair of the Sponsorship Committee. “It’s a great, fun-filled day for the family. There will be all kinds of activities for the kids, paratroopers dropping from the sky, and the always-spirited Phillie Phanactic will be in attendance.”

One of Delaware County’s hometown heroes will also be there, as Lt. General Ronald S. Coleman, a Darby native and retired Marine, will speak on the sacrifices our servicemen and women make in order to protect our freedom and the American way of life. Coleman became the second African-American in the Marine Corps to reach the three-star rank.

Also speaking is Sgt. Carl David Duda, who was severely wounded in 2006 in Baghdad and was treated at Walter Reed Hospital from 2006-12. He will share his story about how the funds raised at this event helped his family through some very difficult times.

CBS3’s Ukee Washington will emcee the event. There will be rock climbing, zip-lining, and freefalling, plus the musical group Bucket List will perform and D.J. Partytime will keep the music spinning throughout the day. Local restaurant Nifty Fifty’s, a Delco landmark, will offer its famous burgers and other menu favorites.
