The Aston-based Sun East Federal Credit Union, in an ongoing effort to promote community involvement and well-being, has joined the 9th Annual Get Your Rear in Gear Philadelphia 2017 walk/run on Sunday, March 26.

The event is held annually in partnership with the Colon Cancer Coalition and has raised more than $2 million to fight colon cancer. All of the proceeds raised from this event stay in the tri-state region for education, screening, and prevention programs.

This event brings together colon cancer survivors, families, caregivers, medical practitioners, the running community, and local businesses to address the CDC’s top two priorities: awareness and screening.

Colon Cancer Facts:

  • Pennsylvania ranks 20th in the nation for colon cancer screening rates.
  • 70 percent of Americans with insurance are not up-to-date on their colorectal cancer screenings.
  • 1:10 of those diagnosed with colon cancer are under the age of 50.
  • 1:20 Americans will be diagnosed with colon cancer during their lifetime.

As a sponsor, Sun East will staff and members will participate in the walk/run while also providing attendees and guests with savings tips in the hospitality tent. Guests can stop by and discuss their financial well-being, as well as enter to win an exciting prize.

Sun East team members have a very personal investment in this year’s event, as their President and CEO, Michael Kaczenski, was diagnosed with colon cancer last year. While Kaczenski has completed his treatment, the Hike for Mike team will walk in his honor to educate others on the importance of getting screened.
