Hoops from the Heart Basketball Clinic Raises Money for CAADC’s Life Center in Upper Darby

By

Delaware County Councilman Dave White, Vice Chair Colleen Morrone, and Councilman Mike Culp visited and commended the young players participating in the annual Hoops from the Heart Basketball Clinic and Food Drive on Jan. 16.

Hundreds of students from across the county participated in the annual drive at Haverford College, Cabrini College, and Widener University, raising more than $9,000 and collecting over 400 food items.

The drive, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr., benefited the Community Action Agency of Delaware County’s Life Center in Upper Darby, which – thanks to dozens of churches, synagogues, and temples – serves 200 meals a day and provides shelter to 50 people each day.

Last year, its meal program served over 79,000 meals with the assistance of 11,114 volunteer hours. The number of needy individuals participating in the program increases every year.
