American College of Emergency Physicians Honors Doctor, Professor from Newtown Square

James R. Roberts, a professor and emergency medical physician from Newton Square, has been honored by the American College of Emergency Physicians with the Outstanding Contribution in Education Award, according to a staff report from the Journal of Emergency Medical Services.

Roberts, who is a professor of emergency medicine at the Drexel University College of Medicine and director of medical toxicology at The Mercy Catholic Medical Center, received the award for his teaching excellence in emergency medicine.

A graduate of Jefferson Medical College, Roberts attended Lafayette College and did his residency in emergency medicine at The Medical College of Pennsylvania, followed by a fellowship in medical toxicology at New York University/Bellevue Hospital.

A former faculty member at The University of Cincinnati Medical Center and The New Mexico School of Medicine, he established two fellowship training programs in medical toxicology, which have successfully trained more than 30 toxicologists.

Roberts recently stepped down as vice chair of emergency medicine at Drexel after 26 years and as chair of emergency medicine at Mercy Catholic Medical Center.
