Glen Mills Resident Runs His Business Like He Runs Marathons

Kevin Nolan

Kevin Nolan is ambitious. He’s driven. And he gets things done — in both his personal life and business.

The 57-year-old from Glen Mills runs Nolan Painting, based in Havertown, just like he runs across the country. He now has finished a marathon in every one of the 50 states since getting his start in the 1996 Philadelphia Marathon.

“As a friend once said to me, ‘Kevin always hits his goals.’ That’s become my mantra,” Nolan said in a Philadelphia Inquirer report by Sandy Bauers. “I say it to myself over and over again. It helped me to get the confidence that I can say and set a goal, and then achieve it. I do the same thing with my business. It gives all my colleagues and coworkers and friends confidence that we’re going to hit our goals together as a team. Be resilient when things don’t go well.”

While the purpose of Nolan’s marathoning obsession was for the healthy lifestyle and structured routine that running imposes, the results have tread into unexpected territory: a focus on community philanthropy that now aims to give back $1 million in the next 10 years.

“As an employer of 100 people, I model fitness and health, but I also model fairness and community and giving back,” he said.
