Major changes are in the works for Wawa’s legacy store No. 6 in Upper Providence, as it will be demolished and replaced with a larger version that will include gas pumps, writes Mari A. Schaefer for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Upper Providence planning commission recently recommended that the plans for a complete revamp be approved, moving the entire process one step closer to fruition.

Wawa also recently bought two properties adjacent to its current location at Providence Road and Kirk Lane for the expansion. One of the properties belonged to Campbell’s Boat House, a Delaware County landmark, the owners of which decided that the time was ripe for retirement.

According to Media architect Bob Linn, the newly constructed store will cover 4,700 square feet over 2.6 acres and feature six gas pumps.

“It’s a nice, straight-forward, brand new, clean Wawa,” said Linn.

Improvements and new features for the store will also include 10 outside double-seat tables under a canopy, bathrooms, and improved landscaping. The parking will increase as well.

“The existing store only has 38 spaces,” said Linn. “It’s going up to 70 spaces.”
