While it might not be the worst Division I basketball arena in the region, Villanova’s Pavilion does have its shortfalls, and the university is planning to address them, possibly as early as next season, writes Mike Jensen for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Villanova is currently raising funds to renovate the arena while preserving the external footprint.

According to Villanova coach Jay Wright, to achieve that, the Wildcats will have to spend a season playing home games away from the Pavilion.

One of the options for these “home” games is the Wells Fargo Center, but no formal discussions have yet taken place.

Also, while many would like to see an increase in seating from the current 6,500 seats, this is unlikely due to the lack of room required by zoning restrictions.

However, the improvement of its current seats, some of which have restricted views, is a priority for the upgrades. The university is also planning to offer its fans an experience, which would immerse them in Villanova’s basketball history from the moment they walk into the arena.
