When considering the best golf courses in the Philadelphia area, the Golf Course at Glen Mills is at the very top, writes Evan Macy for Metro.

Golfers face an exciting challenge there, as the large rolling greens are hard to read, routinely creating difficult, 80-foot putts. Despite the lack of trees, the wide-open layout creates trouble with any errant tee shot.

“We are not a links course; I believe they call it parkland,” said PGA professional Bob Pfister. “We are highly accessible. All the good courses you can’t get on, but you can get on here.”

The exquisite course is maintained in big part by the wards of the Glen Mills School, the juvenile detention center.

“We try to utilize the kids,” Pfister said. “The kids, it’s their favorite job for them.”
