Is There a Wawa Nearby? Renters Prefer Proximity to PA’s Favorite Store

According to an analysis of rental listings performed by Zillow, Wawa is one of the major draws landlords use when listing properties, writes Sally Deneen for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

To find out what is most important to renters and landlords when it comes to local amenities, Zillow analyzed descriptions of homes found in 1.6 million rental listings.

The real estate website determined that the Delaware County convenience-store chain is 56 times more likely to be used in a listing here than in other parts of the country. The only store ahead of Wawa is the Giant Eagle supermarket chain, which is 92 times more popular in Pennsylvania than it is in other states.

However, there are some significant differences between rent and sale listings, as closeness to colleges and SEPTA becomes more significant.

“Since students are much more likely to be renters, landlords are sure to advertise when a property is close to campus,” Zillow said. “In Pennsylvania, the colleges Drexel, Temple, and Penn were surfaced as top phrases, along with main campus and Rittenhouse.”
