French Country Living Among the Rolling Hills of Newtown Square

Set among the rolling hills of the Willistown Conservation Trust, a charming stone-and-stucco home brings the French countryside to Newtown Square, writes Eileen Smith Dallabrida for Main Line Today.

The owners of the property worked with Hess Landscape Architects in Lansdale to create a dream home inspired by the gardens in France.

“They wanted a landscape that looked like it had evolved over many years,” said HLA founder Chuck Hess.

The plan called for a three-season outdoor living space, along with room for al fresco dining. The aim for this space is that it could be expanded to host larger gatherings of family and friends.

To achieve this goal, the previously built fireplace had to go. Relocating it opened up space for a series of outdoor rooms and gardens. They now cascade from the back door to the infinity pool with its panoramic views.

And while France was the main inspiration, the space also touches on other parts of Europe, including the stone flooring from Malta and Italy on the walkways and pool deck. In addition to the pool, the property also features a large year-round spa.
