SEPTA Assigns Media/Elwyn Line Extra Buses During Peak Hours

By

SEPTA will soon be running extra buses during peak hours on the Media/Elwyn Line.

Starting on Sept. 6, SEPTA will be running supplemental buses during the morning and evening rush hours on several lines, including Media/Elwyn, to help alleviate problems caused by the current railcar shortage, according to a staff report from Plan Philly.

The express buses will run from the most affected stations, while SEPTA hurries to replace the cracked equalizer beams that have put all 120 of its relatively new Silverliner V railcars out of commission.

SEPTA hopes to have the work done by November, but in the meantime, Regional Rail riders have been suffering through a summer of overcrowded trains and skipped stops. The situation is expected to worsen with the number of commuters increasing, as summer vacations come to an end.

Passengers can ride on the express bus service using their weekly or monthly TransPasses, tokens, transfers, or $2.25 in exact change, as regular bus fares will apply.

The buses will operate exclusively during the morning and evening peaks, with departures times set from 6:30-8:30 AM and 4-6 PM.
