Darrell Hill’s Olympic bid ended Thursday morning in Rio de Janeiro when he failed to advance to the medal round of the shot-put competition.

The Penn Wood High School and Penn State graduate finished 12th overall in the Group A qualifying round with a put that measured 64-feet, 2-inches. Overall, Hill placed 23rd out of 34.

The Darby native tweeted that “my confidence has not wavered and my chin is still high.”

Track and field legend Al Joyner, who won gold in the triple jump in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, tweeted his support.

“It’s not over!” he said. “This was your learning Olympic Year. Take this lesson and build on it.”

Hill’s father, Ellis, an Uber driver, was able to see his son compete thanks to a generous customer.
