Mike Tollin of Havertown, a Hollywood mover-and-shaker, knows how to take the long view when he’s working on a project, like reviving the sport of SlamBall, writes Matt Breen for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

“It’s perseverance. You can look up any project we’ve had, and it’s often several years, if not more than a decade, of trying to put something together,” said Tollin, co-chairman of Mandalay Sports Media.

Mike Tollin is the co-creator of SlamBall, a game of basketball on trampolines. The activity disappeared 20 years ago from TV, but he decided to bring it back when games showed up on social media during the pandemic.

He and Mason Gordon created SlamBall in 1999, sketching the idea onto a napkin. While it ran for two years on Spike TV, it was more a TV show than a sport. It wasn’t aired live, and there were no stats, standings, or ways to track favorite players.

Tollin and Gordon brought SlamBall back last month with a two-year contract on ESPN, and Tollin’s goal this time is to make it legit.

He recruited former Philadelphia Eagles long-snapper Jon Dorenbos as a SlamBall live commentator.

There are also investors—David Adelman and David Blitzer of the Philadelphia 76ers with Michael Rubin of the Fanatics.
