Delaware County Offers a Number of Free Summer Entertainment Options

While summer has the potential to strain your wallet, there are plenty of possibilities in Delaware County to keep you and your kids entertained for free, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Delaware County News Network.

Delaware County has a little something for almost everyone.

Running until Aug. 14, there is the annual Rose Tree Summer Festival at Rose Tree Park in Media. It offers 45 days of varied and free entertainment, including some of the area’s favorite performers such as Charlie Gracie, Blackthorn, Chico’s Vibe, and Zydeco-A-Go-Go.

For a more active choice, the John Heinz Wildlife Refuge in Tinicum, with its 10 miles of natural beauty, is the perfect place for a summer walk, run, or bike ride. The Education Center also has plenty of frogs and turtles to delight the little ones, ensuring the whole family has a blast.

For a trip through time, Delco offers a wealth of historical sites that can be visited for free, such as the Morton House in Prospect Park and Newtown Square’s Bartram Bridge, Square Tavern, and St. David’s Church.

Local farmers markets can also be fun, as they usually offer free entertainment and the chance to grab some fresh ingredients for a healthy lunch.

In-town options to keep your kids busy and entertained include free crafts and story-time sessions at the Barnes & Noble in Broomall, free workshops for kids at Home Depot, and free Giggle Gang entertainment for children at the Springfield Mall.
