Rap star Jahlil Beats returned to his native Chester last week to help residents stay cool during the scorching summer heat by distributing donated box fans, writes Rick Kauffman for the Daily Times.

Born Orlando Tucker, the 28-year-old platinum music producer joined Health Partners Foundation to distribute the fans to local residents on the Avenue of the Arts. The donations were made possible through the “Chill Program,” which has already doled out more than 200 fans throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania.

“I felt like it was mandatory and necessary to give back, especially with it being so hot,” said Beats. “I just wanted to give back to my own people for showing me so much love and support coming up.”

Health Partners Foundation has been working on helping low-income residents, as well as special-needs individuals, beat the summer heat through the Summer Heat Emergency Relief program.

Beats, a singer/songwriter who signed with Jay Z’s Roc Nation record label five years ago, maintains his connections to the community. He also recently participated in the Allen Iverson Summer Celebrity Basketball Classic at Temple’s Liacouras Center to support the Police Athletic League of Philadelphia.
