Delaware County Council recently honored the Springfield High School boys' lacrosse team for winning the state championship.

As you can read in the Delaware County Council’s newsletter for July, the Council honored the boys’ lacrosse team at Springfield High School for winning the PIAA state championship.

Also, the Penncrest High School Envirothon Gold Team recently won the county and state Envirothons. On July 24, it will compete in the North American Envirothon in Canada. This year marks the 23rd consecutive year that Penncrest won the Delaware County competition.

The Lions won the state title a record 12 times. Envirothon is a competition that tests a student’s knowledge on environmental science topics such as wildlife, forestry, soil, and aquatic life.

With rising temperatures and the ever-present threat of heat waves, Delaware County Council informed residents about the County’s Heat Plan. During a heat wave, seniors, young children and those with health challenges are vulnerable to the heat. To combat this, COSA provides fans to senior centers and adult care centers for use by residents.

The scenic, tree-lined property that once belonged to Thomas Scott, President Abraham Lincoln’s Assistant Secretary of War, is now preserved as open space thanks to Delaware County’s purchase of the Little Flower Manor property in Darby Borough.

The land acquired is a little more than 37 acres, and will soon be open to Delaware County residents to picnic, hike, and enjoy this beautiful property.
