Citing Controversial Bathroom Law, Wayne Firm Moves Conference Closer to Home

By

Wayne’s B Lab has moved its annual meeting from North Carolina to Philadelphia due to the controversial transgender bathroom bill passed by the state three months ago, writes Kenneth Hilario for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

B Lab changed its plans after North Carolina passed House Bill 2 in March, which forces people to use bathrooms in government buildings, schools, and universities corresponding with the gender on their birth certificate, instead of the one they identify with.

Vale Jokisch, B Lab Director of Services, said that the company went through an extensive process to gather feedback from its community.

“We made the decision that it’s firmly in opposition to the values the B Corp community upholds,” she said, “and we did not feel comfortable asking our community, particularly those in the LGBT community, to fly to a state they did not feel comfortable in.”

Now, the 550 guests coming to the annual Champions Retreat will enjoy the conference at the Sheraton Philadelphia Society Hill Hotel from October 18-20.
