Although the Philadelphia Union advertises itself as hailing from the City of Brotherly Love, the Major League Soccer franchise that calls Chester home is now as Delaware County as the Blue Route, Baltimore Pike and 69th Street.

The Union’s continued alliance with the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will be on full display Wednesday, June 22, when the club hosts the Chicago Fire at 7 PM in the Seventh Annual Delaware County Night at Talen Energy Stadium.

“The people of Delco have really embraced us as their team,” said Carl Cherkin, the Union’s Vice President of Business Relations and a member of the Chamber’s board of directors.

“Delaware County has been our home from the very beginning, and we’re thankful to be a part of the social fabric of the community.”

“We’re grateful to then Governor [Ed] Rendell and then Senator [Dominic] Pileggi for joining forces and facilitating the building of our stadium [in 2008]. Our gratitude extends to this day, and we always want to be great partners with the Delaware County Council and Chamber of Commerce.”

The five members of Council – Mario Civera Jr., Colleen Morrone, John McBlain, David White, and Michael Culp – and Chamber President Trish McFarland will be honorary captains for the game.

“This has always been a great way for the business community to come together, to enjoy a night out, and maybe do a little networking,” said McFarland.

Midway through the season, the Union currently sits atop the Eastern Conference standings and is poised to secure its second-ever postseason berth and first since 2011.

The team’s success has certainly helped increase ticket sales for the event, as more than 1,000 people are expected to attend as part of the Chamber’s initiative.

“A lot of companies have purchased blocks of tickets,” said Greg Imming, the Union’s Director of Group Sales. “And it seems like each company does something different with them. Some use them as incentives at work, and others give them to their family and friends. Many treat the game as a company outing.”

Although Imming said he expects a sellout of 18,000-seat Talen Energy Stadium, tickets to Wednesday’s game are still available at a discounted rate of $20, a portion of which will support chamber initiatives.
