Instacart has partnered with this H Mart in Upper Darby.

Same-day delivery service Instacart has partnered with a national Asian-American supermarket chain to deliver more ethnic products to its customers, and Philadelphia, specifically Upper Darby, will be the first expansion city, writes Kenneth Hilario of the Philadelphia Business Journal.

San Francisco-based Instacart has partnered with grocery chain H Mart, so users of the delivery service will be able to get their favorite kimchi, curry, and other ethnic foods delivered right to their doors.

The partnership commences this week. The H Mart is located near SEPTA’s 69th Street Transportation Center in Upper Darby.

“There’s a lot of demand and interest from our customers, and H Mart was a perfect fit, both from the unique product offerings they have and relevance to the customers,” said Vishwa Chandra, vice president of retail accounts at Instacart.

The partnership – along with other partnerships with ethnic retailers – brought on challenges of translations of products, but Chandra said Instacart and H Mart were able to partner to create “the right experience digitally.”

Instacart currently services 18 metropolitan areas, including Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, New York, Portland, San Jose, Calif, and Seattle.

In 2014, Instacart partnered with the Reading Terminal Market.
