Find Your Cause: Delaware County’s Volunteer Fair Connects Residents With Local Nonprofits

Delco Volunteers look after the gardens at the Scott Arboretum. Delco Volunteers is a program through America250PA Delco made up of volunteers helping with county events and activities relating to the 250th anniversary celebration.

If you’ve always wanted to do more for your community, but don’t know where to start, you should swing by a free volunteer fair taking place Thursday morning, June 25, from 8:30 to 10:30 AM, at the Delaware County Bar Association, 335 W. Front Street in Media.

Connection with a Cause is a volunteer fair hosted by the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, connecting Delaware County nonprofits and community organizations with people who want to get involved.

Attendees will have the chance to move through the room at their own pace, meet representatives from local organizations, ask questions, and discover causes that align with their interests and values.

It’s a broad range of organizations and opportunities. Whether your passion is education, literacy, housing, food security, mental health, music and the arts, senior services, domestic violence support, or children’s programming, there is very likely an organization in the room whose mission resonates with you.

Attendees can explore:

  • Hands-on volunteer opportunities — one-time projects and ongoing positions
  • Board service — leadership roles with local nonprofit organizations
  • Committee work — focused involvement on specific initiatives
  • Corporate volunteer programs — team opportunities for businesses looking to strengthen community partnerships

Why It Matters

“Connecting for a Cause is a great way to meet new people, make friends, and possibly find a cause you’re interested in supporting,” said Vincent James, founder of Keep Music Alive and vice chair of the Chamber’s Nonprofit Committee.

“Volunteering just one to two hours a month can make a huge difference for one of our local nonprofit organizations. Many have already discovered — helping our neighbors by contributing to our community is one of the best feelings you’ll ever have.”

Studies consistently show that volunteering helps people expand their professional networks, develop new skills, and increase their sense of belonging and purpose.

In a county as active and community-minded as Delaware County, opportunities to get involved are plentiful. The challenge is figuring out where to start.

The Volunteer Fair is designed to remove that barrier. You don’t need experience. You don’t need a specific cause already in mind. You just need two hours and a willingness to explore.

For Businesses and Teams

The event is also a natural fit for companies looking to strengthen their culture through community engagement.

Encouraging employees to attend together, or to explore volunteer leadership opportunities on behalf of your organization,  can create meaningful community connections while deepening team relationships.

If you’ve been looking for a way to make employee volunteerism a real and sustainable part of your company’s identity, this is an easy and low-pressure place to begin.
