New Chester Library Mural Keeps Memory of Young Athlete Ny’Ques Farlow-Davis Alive

The Ny'Ques Farlow-Davis mural pairs the teen athlete with a basketball and the message "Never Stop Dreaming" at the J. Lewis Crozer Library in Chester.

Near the football fields where Ny’Ques Farlow-Davis once practiced and played, a vibrant new mural now keeps watch over the J. Lewis Crozer Library in Chester

The two-section tribute honors the 13-year-old Chester Charter Scholars Academy student and standout athlete who was killed in May 2020, reports Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times

Privately funded by the Davis family and painted by Tucker Rodkey of Legacy Arts Chester, the mural splits its focus between the boy and the game.

The mural celebrates his love of basketball and football, sports he played since he was five years old.

To his grandfather, Kyle Davis, who raised him as a son, Ny’Ques was a natural leader with rare athletic talent and an even bigger heart.

“He was a thoughtful kid,” Davis said. “Most kids, top of the food chain in athletics, they’re boisterous. But he always wanted other kids to get involved. He always thought of others.”

Davis pointed to one moment that captured his grandson. After receiving a new pair of sneakers, Ny’Ques kept wearing his old ones because a teammate did not have a pair of his own.

Across the mural, messages of encouragement like “Never stop dreaming,” “Don’t give up,” and “Legends Are Forever” carry his memory forward.

For the family, the artwork offers friends and loved ones a place to remember Ny’Ques beyond the cemetery.

“These pieces are commemorating his sports legacy, his life legacy … and the continued impact his life has had on people in Chester,” said Rodkey. “Our main goal is to provide images of hope and inspiration.”

For his grandmother, Rosalyn Davis, the mural carries a bittersweet weight, a reminder that Ny’Ques should still be here, and the complete account of how the tribute came together can be read in the Daily Times
