The Flyers’ chaotically lovable orange mascot is the latest Philadelphia celebrity to partner with Wawa for a brand new, limited-edition Gritty Smoothie, writes Stephanie Farr for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
This oxymoron of a dessert features a mango-pineapple-and-tart-cherry blend topped with whipped cream and chocolate chips, serving as an homage to the mascot’s orange fur.
Wawa and Gritty have been teasing the collaboration on social media since the end of March and dropped the new dessert on May 4. It’s a bit of fate to have the launch day coincide with the first Flyers’ playoff run in years.
One Instagram video features Gritty as he picks out an assortment of Wawa items for lunch before dining outside with a tablecloth on one of the store’s trash cans.
“Nothing beats a delco picnic,” he wrote in the post’s caption.
Another video shows Gritty dressed in his finest suit as he pitches a collaboration to Wawa’s mascot, Wally Goose.
“I’ve been a lil choosy on who I meet with during the playoffs, but when Wally the Wawa Goose calls, you answer,” said Gritty in a news release.
Wawa has previously partnered with local sports celebrities Kyle Schwarber, Saquon Barkley, and Jason and Kylie Kelce for special menu additions.
The Gritty Smoothie will be available at over 400 stores in Philly and the surrounding area.
