Wawa has secured its spot among the most powerful family-owned companies in the country, and for anyone who has ever made a late-night hoagie run or grabbed a coffee on the way to work, it probably comes as no surprise.
The Delaware County-based convenience store chain landed at No. 26 on Forbes’ 2026 list of America’s Largest Family Businesses, a ranking that reflects just how far the brand has traveled since its founding in 1964, according to an article from Matt Durot and Andrea Murphy for Forbes.
Today, Wawa generates an estimated $19 billion in revenue and employs approximately 47,000 workers across 14 states and Washington, D.C.
Under the leadership of President and CEO Chris Gheysens, the chain has expanded well beyond its Pennsylvania roots, with locations now stretching from New Jersey and Delaware to Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana, all while staying family-owned.
The recognition doesn’t stop there. Wawa also recently earned a spot at No. 184 on Forbes’ 2026 list of America’s Best Employers for Company Culture, a nod to the loyalty the brand inspires not just among customers, but among its workforce.
Wawa wasn’t the only Pennsylvania name to make the list. Comcast, Universal Health Services, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Sheetz, Giant Eagle, D&H Distributing, Asplundh Tree Expert, and 84 Lumber also earned spots among America’s largest family-owned businesses.
