The Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art will be undergoing a $100 million expansion on its Chadds Ford campus, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
A new 40,000-square-foot museum will be created on its 325 acres, along with a preserve and garden with 10 miles of trails.
Construction will begin in spring 2027, with the new museum scheduled to open in fall 2029.
The museum currently features a 5,500-square-foot gallery space, a research center, and the Millstone Cafe. The mill building that houses the museum will be renovated, retaining the original spaces and expanding with new additions.
Plans for the new building, which will add 14,000 square feet of gallery space, include two 4,000-square-foot galleries for special exhibitions and landscape paintings on the upper level. An additional 1,000-square-foot gallery will be dedicated to Andrew Wyeth’s work on that floor.
The lower level will include a 4,000-square-foot gallery with art from the Wyeth family and a coffee bar. Another 1,000-square-foot space will feature special exhibits.
The garden trails and preserve will connect the museum buildings. Visitors will also be able to enjoy an outdoor classroom and nature play area.
