Villanova University Makes U.S. News Best Law Schools Top 50 List

The Charles Widger School of Law at Villanova University cracked the top 50 law schools list in the nation this year from U.S. News & World Report.

Villanova University’s Charles Widger School of Law has once again earned a spot on the annual U.S. News & World Report Best Law Schools rankings, writes Jeff Blumenthal for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Villanova tied for No. 49 with Temple University and Indiana University, after ranking No. 48 last year.

The last two years have marked a major turnaround for the Delaware County school, which dropped to No. 101 in 2012 after a damaging scandal that involved the reporting of inaccurate admissions data to the American Bar Association.

Since then, new leadership has helped restore trust, secure millions of dollars in scholarship funding, and implement curriculum improvements and other changes that have helped propel the school back into the Top 50.

When ranking 198 accredited U.S. law schools, U.S. News places primary emphasis on employment outcomes, which make up 60 percent of the methodology. The other 40 percent is based on faculty resources, student credentials, and professional assessments.

Penn’s Carey Law School is the top-ranked school in the region, tying for fourth place with the University of Virginia.
