Sometimes it takes a family to win a cheesesteak award.
That’s the case over at Niko’s Steaks in Clifton Heights, where the combined efforts of a father, mother, son, and sister led to Niko’s Steaks winning a Best Cheesesteaks in Delco award for 2026 in the March Cheesesteak Madness competition.
Bob Kelly of Fox 29 recently visited with Niko of Niko’s Steaks, who runs the shop, with some assistance from his father and mother.
The business has only been open for a few months. Niko decided to open the shop after trying out a semester and a half of college.
“I mean, what better than to open up a restaurant of my own?” he asked.
His father, George, said Niko is continuing a family tradition, and he couldn’t be prouder.
“I started off with my parents, and we just passed it on from generation to generation to this guy here,” pointing at his son.
George does some of the cooking. Niko’s mom provides the recipes and prepares the chicken cutlets from scratch.
Everything is made in-house, including the award-winning cheesesteak, which includes onions, mushrooms, and a little pepper for color.
