Aston native John Camp, head hockey coach at the University of Georgia, is set to lead a USA All-Star team in an international junior tournament in Europe, writes Marcus Greaves for 11 Alive.
Three UGA players will be participating.
It will be the first time in Europe for many of the players.
Camp, whose team will face opponents from around the world, is looking forward to more than just the competition.
“For me, it’s just a phenomenal opportunity to enjoy the sport we love but also have camaraderie with people from different countries and different cultures,” he said. “And be able to just enjoy and experience what this sport brings.”
Along with the excitement, the players and coach will be coming with a strong motivation, aware that hockey is not typically linked to the Southeast and that some international opponents may underestimate them.
“I feel like maybe some of the European guys are like, oh, you know, these guys are from the Southeast, they don’t know how to play hockey, they are maybe underestimating us, so you know, we got to show them what we got,” said player Wyatt Mcavoy.
