Nine of the 10 biggest health insurers turn to a Newtown Square company to help process health insurance claims for 190 million Americans, writes Harold Brubaker for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Lyric.ai provides the technology that sustains the payments vital to U.S. healthcare.
Carolyn J. Wukitch started at the company 35 years ago when it was still using mainframe computers. She’s now Lyric’s chief operating officer.
Though the company now leverages AI and other new technologies, ‘our core function hasn’t changed,” she noted.
Since its founding in the late 1980s, the company has been through four ownership changes.
When TPG Capital bought it in 2022, it re-engineered Lyric’s core claims editing system, expanded Lyric’s product offering for insurers, and added AI experts to the staff.
Wukitch. started at the company in 1990 when it was called Gabrieli Medical Information Systems Inc.
It has since grown from 40 employees to more than 500, with centers now in the Philippines and India, as well as Newtown Square.
“We’re back to being solely focused on helping health plans pay claims accurately,” she said.
The AI component has made the work of nurses, coders, and pharmacists easier, she said.
