Restored Lansdowne Theater Welcomes Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt Before April 10 Official Launch

The refurbished Lansdowne Theater reopened in August for concerts. An official grand reopening is scheduled for April 10.

The newly-refurbished Lansdowne Theater has been open for concerts, most recently welcoming Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt.

An official reopening on April 10 is still planned, welcoming the Brazilian band Minas, who are residents of Lansdowne, writes Dan DeLuca for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The 99-year-old venue has been brought back to life through a $20 million restoration that beautifully preserved its Spanish Colonial Revival architecture.

The theater has already welcomed tribute bands and folk and classic rock performers, including Shawn Colvin, Marc Cohn, and Steve Hackett. Upcoming shows feature Graham Nash on April 4, followed by Ani DiFranco and Valerie June after reopening on May 6. Jeffrey Osborne and Will Downing will take the stage on June 6.

The tunesmith Lovett and Hoosier songwriter Hiatt took the stage on March 12 for a two-hour-plus performance filled with songs and stage banter that was by turns hilarious and heartfelt.

Lovett also acknowledged the newly refurbished theater at the start of the performance, quipping that, unlike the venue, which had been closed for nearly 40 years, “we’ve been open that whole time.”
