Bryn Mawr Hospital Nurses Get Major Boost From Anonymous Donor

Bryn Mawr Hospital nurses received a surprise $1 million donation to help ease student loan debt and support work-life balance.

Nurses at Bryn Mawr Hospital got an unexpected show of support this week when they learned an anonymous donor had given $1 million to help ease their student loan debt, writes Sharifa Jackson for 6abc Action News

The surprise gift will provide relief to 173 applicants, each eligible for grants of up to $3,600. Hospital officials said that amount was the maximum that could be distributed without creating tax consequences for recipients.

For nurses like Aliyah Hall, the moment was emotional. Hall, who has worked for Main Line Health for four years, said she arrived without knowing what to expect and left overwhelmed by the generosity.

For Matt Roberts, now in his eighth year as a nurse, the impact is deeply personal, saying the financial relief could mean less overtime and more time with his daughter.

Bryn Mawr Hospital’s donation follows similar gifts made across the Main Line Health system, including $1 million donations to Lankenau Medical Center and Paoli Hospital and $250,000 to Riddle Hospital. In total, more than 600 nurses across the network have benefited from $4.26 million in donations since last year.
