Upper Darby High Capital Project Means a Temporary Summer Stage Move to Haverford High School

Upper Darby Summer Stage is relocated to Haverford High School this summer because of renovations at Upper Darby High School.

Upper Darby Summer Stage, which has called Upper Darby High School home for decades, will be moving temporarily to Haverford High School for its summer season because of renovations at the high school.

The move provides an opportunity to partner with the Haverford Township School District, states a Summer Stage release.

“This collaboration marks an exciting new chapter for both organizations and reflects a shared commitment to arts education, community engagement, and providing exceptional performance and learning experiences for young artists from across the region,” the release stated.

For Summer 2026, Haverford High School will serve as the home for Upper Darby Summer Stage’s full slate of summer performances.

“This partnership allows us to continue delivering high-quality theater education in a space that supports creativity, collaboration, and community. Summer 2026 is shaping up to be a season unlike any other for our students and families!” said Chris Luner, Artistic & Managing Director of Upper Darby Summer Stage.

Dr. Matthew Hayes, superintendent of the Haverford Township School District, said the partnership aligns with the district’s commitment to support the arts and create meaningful experiences for students and families.

The Upper Darby Summer Stage Junior programs will continue to be held at Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast High School for Summer 2026.

Upper Darby Mayor Ed Brown said the township continues to support Summer Stage as a founding sponsor.

“In Summer 2026, the Township will once again contribute $125,000 in funding to ensure that students from the community have access to high-quality performing arts education and opportunity,” he said. “Once renovations and upgrades are complete, we eagerly await the return of Summer Stage in 2027 to its home of the last fifty years, Upper Darby High School.”

As part of the temporary transition, Summer Stage is actively working to ensure that students from Upper Darby continue to have access to programming through transportation options, financial assistance, and ongoing community partnerships.
