A Norwood Woman, Sam the Popcorn Girl, Heads to the Open Seas

Samantha DiMarco from Norwood is stepping down this season as Sam the Popcorn Girl at Citizens Bank Park to pursue a job on a Carnival Cruise Line shop.

A Norwood woman who gained fame as ‘Sam the Popcorn Girl’ at Citizens Bank Park won’t be around much for this season of the Phillies.

After 10 years, Samantha DiMarco will instead be spending her summer working on a Carnival Cruise Line ship, writes Nick Kariuki for Billy Penn at WHYY.

DiMarco, who has a social media following, drew the attention of fans at Phillies home games as the popcorn vendor who could balance a popcorn tub on her head.

It was hard announcing she was leaving.

“I tried not to cry,” she recalled, “I had been rehearsing in my car for months on end, because I’ve known this day has been coming for a couple of months now.”

She hasn’t said what she’ll be doing on the cruise ship, but said working with the public will help her in her new role.

“Just meeting new people and traveling are two of my favorite things to do,” she said. “I want to know people’s stories and just interact, find new cultures, new foods to try, new activities.”

She will miss seeing the All-Star game and a Home Run Derby in person, something she’s waited her entire life to see, DiMarco said.
