The Phillies introduced "Dollar Dog Night" in 1997, and is now replacing it with a new $5 hot dog promotion.

The Philadelphia Phillies have announced that it is ending its “Dollar Dog Nights” after 27 years of the tradition, writes David Chang, Emily Rose Grassi, and Aaron Baskerville for NBC 10 Philadelphia.

In replacement, the team will instead have “Hatfield Phillies Franks BOGO Nights.”

The new giveaway will debut on April 2, and again on April 16, and will allow fans to buy one hot dog at regular price and get a second hot dog free at concession stands throughout Citizens Bank Park.

“This was done in order to make sure we try to provide a positive environment for all of our fans at our game,” said John Weber, the Phillies’ Senior Vice President of Ticket Operations & Projects.

“Dollar Dog Nights” was first introduced at the former home of the Phillies, Veterans Stadium, in 1997. It remained a very popular event over the years.

However, it also led to some incidents, such as fans tossing hot dogs across the stands or at players.

“The last couple years there was some operational issues which we’re going to address,” said Weber. “We’re working on a few things. Additional staffing. Additional hot dog areas to sell the hot dogs and additional security as we move forward into 2024.
