American Airlines Route Connects Philadelphia to Porto, Portugal

American Airlines will add Port, Portugal to its international flights out of Philadelphia in 2027.

Starting in summer 2027, American Airlines will launch daily seasonal flights between Philadelphia International Airport and Porto Airport in Portugal, pending government approval, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

According to a representative of PHL’s largest carrier, the start date will be announced in the coming months. American plans to deploy its new Airbus A321XLR on the Porto route, an aircraft that began service late last year. The jet includes 20 of American’s Flagship Suite premium seats.

American already provides daily, year-round service from PHL to Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon, Portugal. Based in Fort Worth, Texas, the carrier remains the only airline flying between Philadelphia and Portugal.

In its first year of operation, the new route could qualify American for up to $475,000 in incentives under PHL’s Air Service Incentive Program. The initiative is set to continue through 2027.

As part of a three-year trend of steadily increasing international service at PHL ahead of the high-demand summer season, American is adding two more routes to Europe, introducing nonstop daily flights from PHL to Budapest and Prague starting May 21.
