DCCC Hosts Black History Month Lecture Feb. 26

DCCC professor Keeley P. Mitchell.

In recognition of Black History Month, Delaware County Community College (DCCC) will host a lecture on the historic impact of Brown v. Board of Education (1954) and the critical role of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall in challenging racial segregation in public education.

The event will take place on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 11:00 AM in the STEM Building Lower Lobby on DCCC’s Marple Campus (910 S. Media Line Road, Media).

Led by DCCC professor Keeley P. Mitchell, JD, MBA, MAHD, the presentation will examine the legal and social context surrounding the case, the strategies used to overturn Plessy v. Ferguson (1896), and the broader implications of the Supreme Court’s decision.

It will also highlight Marshall’s enduring legacy as a civil rights attorney and future Supreme Court Justice and invite reflection on how this landmark ruling continues to shape conversations about educational equity and access today. The lecture is free and open to the public, and a Zoom option is available.
