Our Chester County is a place where locals and visitors enjoy living, working, and playing. While not the largest county in Pennsylvania, it is the wealthiest, leading to an influx of people who cherish its business opportunities, historic landmarks, nature, and more.
But there are other Chester Counties, one in Tennessee and the other in South Carolina.
Each county has a special connection to its name. As one of the original counties created by William Penn, Chester County was named for Chester, England.
Similarly, Chester County, South Carolina was named after Chester, Pennsylvania.
Chester County, Tennessee was named after Colonel Robert I. Chester, a federal marshal and quartermaster in the War of 1812.

Chester County, South Carolina
Formed in 1785, Chester County’s seat in in the town of Chester, the largest community. The county is part of the North Carolina-South Carolina Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Its motto is “Choose Chester County, For Business. For Life.”
The 2020 census reports that 32,294 people live there. Its economy thrives in industrial and agricultural sectors, with the land being used for timber production.
Notable nature landmarks include Sumter National Forest, Chester State Park, and Catawba River.
The county’s longest running event, Flopeye Fish Festival, is held each year at the Catawba River. It also hosts the annual HILLarity Festival, perfect community-wide entertainment.
Chester County, Tennessee
This was the last county formed in Tennessee, created in 1879. The county seat is Henderson, and it is part of the Jackson, TN metro area.
Historically, Chester County had some involvement in the Civil War, with both Union and Confederate forces occupying or battling in the region.
As of the 2020 census, 17,341 people live there. It is also home to Chickasaw State Park.
Singer and TV performer Eddy Arnold was from Henderson, and he references the county in his 1969 autobiography It’s a Long Way from Chester County.
Today, Chester County enjoys its small town charm and hosts events such as the Chester County Barbeque Festival, Arts in the Alley, and more.
