Atif Saeed, the CEO of Philadelphia International Airport and the city’s Department of Aviation, is leaving to take a new job in San Diego, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Saeed will step down Feb. 27 after three years in the position.
Atif will become the president and CEO of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.
PHL CFO Tracy S. Borda will serve as interim CEO after Saeed steps down. Borda has 30 years of experience at the airport after joining the transportation hub in 1995.
There will be a national search to find Saeed’s successor.
It’s an interesting time for a CEO transition at the airport, as it prepares to welcome guests from around the world for the 2026 PGA Championship in Newtown Square, the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 2026 MLB All-Star Game and the 250th anniversary of the nation.
The airport served nearly 30.9 million passengers in 2024. It generates $18.7 billion in spending annually and employs more than 102,600 people full-time and part-time in Greater Philadelphia.
Saeed became the airport CEO in late 2022, also overseeing the Northeast Philadelphia Airport.
He came from the Metropolitan Airports Commission, which operates the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport.
