Ramesses Vazquez-Viana, the 10-year-old boy who was severely burned after a medical jet crashed in Northeast Philadelphia, has finally returned home after almost a year of surgeries and rehabilitation, writes Wakisha Bailey for CBS News Philadelphia.
Family, friends, classmates, teachers, and neighbors were all there recently to help welcome the boy home.
The young boy’s story is one of strength and resilience.
The Jan. 31, 2025 medical jet crash left the young Ramesses with burns on more than 90 percent of his body.
After being airlifted to Boston to undergo several months of surgeries and rehab at Shriners Hospital, he was later transferred to Weisman Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital in Marlton, New Jersey.
Nearly a year later, he is now able to walk and talk, allowing his faith and perseverance to take the lead as he finally returned home.
“I was praying so hard we’d be home for Christmas,” his mother, Jamie Vazquez-Viana, said. “I just wanted my three boys with me.”
Upon his release, the Smedley Elementary School student has begun virtual classes a few days a week.
He will then gradually return to in-person learning.
