The Thanksgiving holiday at Loomis Elementary School in Broomall kicked off with a pajama drive reveal from a banana ball celebrity, reports Jenn Frederick for Fox 29.
The elementary school conducted its 18th annual Pajama Drive, collecting new pajamas, books, and money for the National Pajama Program.
The program collects pajamas from schools and agencies nationwide to give to students in need. It was started by a volunteer at a shelter who discovered the children had no pajamas to wear during their stay.
Loomis students collected and fundraised for the program, with a goal of providing 500 new pairs of pajamas.
This year’s week-long drive at Loomis shot past that goal, with 1,982 pairs of pajamas collected. It was close to the 2024 collection, which saw 2,062 pairs donated.
Considering the school has fewer than 400 children, the final collection was described as a “phenomenal number.”
On hand for the reveal was a former Loomis student, Joe Sperone of the Texas Tailgaters, part of the Savanah Bananas, who remembered collecting himself as a kid.
“Giving back to the community is one of the main reasons why I did it,” he said.
