When it’s time for knee replacement surgery, you won’t have to go far, writes Lizzie Mulvey and Harold Brubaker for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Restore Orthopaedic Surgical Institute in Chadds Ford is one of the top 10 knee replacement providers in the Philadelphia area, with a 600 percent increase in cases from 2023 to 2024.
It had the sixth-highest number of knee replacements among providers in Southeastern Pennsylvania, with 680 procedures in 12 months ending in September 2024.
That’s according to the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Council.
Restore Orthopaedic has been growing fast since it opened in March 2023 as Muve Chadds Ford. It rebranded last year when it became part of Surgery Partners Inc.
The surgery center is approaching 1,450 joint replacements this year, including hips, according to administrator Jennifer Corse.
An aging population is driving an increase in joint replacements, said Nicholas DiNublie, a Premier Orthapaedics physician.
“No doubt, the baby boomers are getting older. But also, obesity is a huge factor in osteoarthritis, especially for the hip and knee, and now you also have younger and younger people not willing to live with arthritis pain. So that’s pushing the envelope, too,” he said.
