Widener University and the Philadelphia Union are partnering again for a series of unique “Work in Sports” field trips that expose area high school students to the career opportunities available within professional sports.
Four high schools will visit Subaru Park and the adjacent newly opened WSFS Bank Sportsplex, which houses practice, training, and meeting space, over the course of three days.
Students from Malvern Preparatory High School will attend on Tuesday, Oct. 7. West Chester East and Rustin High Schools will attend on Wednesday, Oct. 8. Plymouth Whitemarsh High School will attend on Thursday, Oct. 9.
Participating students will walk through the stadium concourse and Union Shop each day with presentations in the Club press room, the WSFS Bank Sportsplex Kinetic Space, and the WSFS Bank Sportsplex multi-purpose room.
Presentations by Widener business, communication studies, and physical therapy faculty members, as well as Union employees, will cover topics such as game-day experience, high-end hospitality, sporting communications, sports medicine, player relations, ticketing, and corporate public relations.
Widener and the Philadelphia Union forged a multi-year partnership agreement in 2023, making Widener the official university of the Philadelphia Union, Subaru Park, and WSFS Bank Sportsplex.
The partnership provides educational opportunities for Widener students, including internships and job shadowing with the Union, as well as community outreach initiatives like these field trip experiences, led by the Union and Widener.
