After Closing in Philadelphia, Popular Restaurant Finds New Life in Wallingford

The popular Philly restaurant Fond, which closed in 2021 after 12 years in East Passyunk, has found a new life in Wallingford.

The popular Philadelphia restaurant Fond, which closed in 2021 after 12 years in East Passyunk, has found a new life in Wallingford, following its patrons to the suburbs, writes Jason Sheehan for Philadelphia Magazine

The newest version of Fond opened in October last year.

Chef Lee Styer is once again making all of the favorites, including chicken liver mousse, roasted shrimp with saffron sauce and an angel hair gâteau, as well as his French onion soup.

“It was always a global menu, but with French influences,” said Styer. “Contemporary American. That’s what they used to call it. That means you can just do whatever you want, right?”

Fond originally opened in 2009, quickly attracting a loyal following. However, the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced many restaurants to close, led Styer and his wife, pastry chef Jessie Prawlucki Styer, to shut their doors.

The couple moved to Media and were not planning to reopen until they realized that many of their former customers had moved to the suburbs, either during the pandemic or following their retirement.

That prompted the couple to bring the restaurant back to life, this time in Delaware County.
