With median rents in the Philadelphia region hovering around $1,900 a month, renters are asking what that budget can actually secure, writes Michaelle Bond for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
A look at properties in Bala Cynwyd, Fishtown, and West Philadelphia shows a wide range of options that highlight the diversity of the local rental market.
In Bala Cynwyd, Summit Court Apartments offers a small, garden-style complex with historic charm. Built in 1952, the two-story property features hardwood floors, Shaker-style kitchens, and private laundry for each unit. A two-bedroom apartment with access to a courtyard is available for $1,899.
In Fishtown, new construction is driving growth. At 23 West, a recently opened development on Girard Avenue, renters can choose from modern studios, one-bedrooms, and loft-style apartments. A one-bedroom unit is currently listed at $1,895 with incentives like three months’ free rent. Amenities include a rooftop deck, coworking spaces, and ground-floor tenants such as Haraz Coffee House and Wonder, the food hall concept.
In West Philadelphia, renters can find larger, renovated homes with character. A three-bedroom rowhouse near Mantua, priced at $1,850, offers nearly 1,800 square feet, multiple bathrooms, original fireplaces, and both a porch and back patio.
