Penn Medicine is bringing world-class cancer care closer to Montgomery County residents, writes Harold Brubaker for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The health system is adding a new $270 million outpatient center now under construction in Montgomeryville.
The facility will include advanced radiation oncology and an infusion center. This is all part of the University of Pennsylvania Health System’s sweeping regional expansion aimed at meeting growing demand for cancer treatment.
“More and more patients want to receive care closer to home,” said Lisa Martin, a senior vice president at Moody’s Rating, underscoring the shift toward community-based care.
The Montgomeryville project joins Penn’s growing network of suburban centers in places like Radnor and Cherry Hill, The expansion aims to deliver the same cutting-edge therapies found at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia across the region.
It’s one of several major Penn investments totaling more than $500 million, including new proton and cancer centers in University City and Princeton.
As cancer diagnoses rise nationwide, Penn aims to extend its reach across the region — ensuring patients don’t have to travel far for top-tier care.
