Marcus Hook, “the mural capital of the world,” is a borough that identifies as “the Cornerstone of Pennsylvania’ because it is the most southeastern point of Pennsylvania.
The community has a relaxed, small-town, walkable vibe that encourages families and “neighborliness,” writes Shaun Melady for Islands.
You can also enjoy canal views of cargo ships and tankers on the Delaware River at Market Square Memorial Park, testimony to the borough’s connection to the industry along the river.
Viscose Village, a historic district, featured Tudor-style architecture in the old industrial part of town.
For eating, the town has a café-centric feel, Melady writes. A hotspot is the Sungate Diner.
Neighborhood restaurants are often family-run, like Italiano’s Restaurant on West 10 Street, where traditional lasagna and chicken parmigiana are served. Lefty’s Irish Pub on Market Street has pub food like burgers and sandwiches.
For bar service, try Copley’s Tavern, a neighborhood hotspot with cheap drinks and sometimes karaoke.
The Marcus Hook Plank House is tied to local pirate stories from the 1700s, and the Marcus Hook Pirate Festival is an annual favorite.
The borough also hosts one of the largest Memorial Day Parades in Delaware County.
