It’s been nearly a year since fire destroyed the 100-year-old St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School in Springfield, and efforts have been underway ever since the Oct. 7 fire to rebuild.
The multi-million construction project has been getting help from the community, including from Vince Sculli, owner of Choice Sports Cards in Aston, reports Madeleine Wright for CBS News Philadelphia.
The school needs a new roof, floors, and walls, and it’s been a challenge to rebuild.
Sculli has donated $8,500 toward the school’s reconstruction and launched a fundraiser asking people to donate $100 to sponsor first responder trading cards. Dozens of business owners have stepped up.
He’s also donated sports memorabilia, like signed baseballs from Phillies player Trea Turner, that can be auctioned off.
“Delco’s always supporting schools or organizations,” Sculli said. It’s a “true testament, I think, to the whole county always just coming together when things get tough.”
Since the fire, St. Francis’s older students have been using temporary classrooms on campus. The younger students are at St. Kevin’s School in another part of Springfield.
