Vincent Sculli, owner of Choice SportsCards in Aston, is leveraging sports memorabilia to help rebuild St. Francis of Assisi School in Springfield, writes Madeleine Wright for CBS News Philadelphia.
His daughter’s school was destroyed by fire in October 2024, displacing students and causing uncertainty for many families.
Sculli launched a fundraiser last month, creating a series of first responder trading cards featuring local police officers, firefighters, and EMTs. Local businesses sponsored the cards for $100 each, with half of the funds supporting the school and the other half covering printing expenses.
“When I came up with the idea, I knew it would take off,” said Sculli. “So far we’ve raised about $7,100.”
The initiative, which was marketed on social media, inspired dozens of local businesses to take part.
“It feels great to be able to give back to the community that’s given to us to thrive and be bigger than what we are,” said Michael Conroy, owner of L&P Auto Repair in Parkside.
Sculli has also collected a number of items to be raffled, such as baseballs signed by Phillies All-Stars Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber.
