Jim Worthington’s plans to redevelop the Goodnoe Family Homestead in Newtown include a new community park, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.
The local businessman said a four-acre retention basin property next to the Goodnoe Homestead would be used for the new park with walking trails and lighting.
The site fronts on North Sycamore between the Goodnoe Homestead and the Promenade, extending west to Eagle Road between Silo Drive and the rescue squad. Its western end, across from the Village at Newtown Shopping Center, contains a large retention basin. Brixmor owns the land.
“I’m proposing taking it over and turning it in a park,” said Worthington. “It’s a big piece of ground. It’s bigger than the ground I’m developing. It’s just a wasteland right now. It could be a nice, passive park.”
He added that his plan includes benches, period lampposts and walking trails that would link Sycamore Street with Eagle Road.
He would also like to create a plaza on Sycamore Street for the township to enjoy live music and other community events.
Worthington, with two partners, recently submitted sketch plans to redevelop the Goodnoe Family Homestead, proposing 111,509 square feet of new construction, including 88,074 square feet of apartment living space.
