Montgomery County wants its residents to put down their pens and pencils and pick up a pumpkin, writes Main Line Times & Suburban.
Now through November 30, residents can take part in Montco Agventure 2025, a hands-on, family-friendly Farm Challenge. Through this challenge, people can connect with the county’s rich agricultural roots, without needing to drive a tractor.
The Montgomery County Food Policy Council organized the initiative to be like a real-life bingo game to encourage participants to explore local farms and foods through simple, enjoyable activities. Activities include sampling farm-fresh ice cream, visiting a farmers market, picking pumpkins, or squishing a lanternfly.
To start, participants must grab a Montco Agventure Bingo Card, available online or at local libraries, farmers markets, and state rep offices. After completing activities in rows, people can submit their cards and photos to earn rewards. New agro-enthusiasts can win mugs, lunch containers, and a cool bag.
If participants visit six or more farms, they will be entered to win a grand prize of locally sourced farm goods.
The program supports the county’s 550+ farms, many of which are struggling amid rising costs and funding cuts.
Sam Applefield, the food policy program director, said they wanted to create something “that’s easy for people to engage with and encourages them to interact with the resources and assets that we have in the county.”
