Wayne Home Gets Outdoor Zen Remodel to Transform Couple’s Space

When renovating their Wayne home, Kristen and David Knouft prioritized the outdoor space, transforming the backyard into a cozy retreat.

During a 2020 renovation of their Wayne home, Kristen and David Knouft prioritized their outdoor space, transforming the backyard into a cozy retreat, writes Terri Akman for The Philadelphia Inquirer

“We are out there as often as we can be,” said Kristen Knouft, who was in charge of the remodel.

The space features a large covered dining and living area and a swimming pool with a smaller dining table, chaise lounges, and a grill. Privacy comes from surrounding trees and vibrant landscaping.

The living area is where the family often watches TV mounted above a fireplace, relaxing on comfy couches and chairs.

Following a similar pattern to the interior, Knouft decorated the outdoor space in blues and whites, giving it what she calls a “Southern B&B” vibe.

The space is usable during three seasons thanks to ceiling heaters. Knouft also invested in durable furniture to help it last.

While many homeowners have resale value in mind during renovations, she had other priorities.

“Our motivation was making the most of our home while our kids are still here,” she said. “We love having a space that a lot of people can come to and hang out and relax.”
